Holiday Insurance

On 1 May 2004 Cyprus became a full member of the
European Union. Since that time visitors from EU Member states have had the right to medical
treatment in Cyprus on production of the appropriate E form which enables the Cyprus government to
charge treatment costs to the National Health Service concerned. So it is now true to say that UK
visitors can obtain free medical treatment at the local general hospital.
Having made that statement it
must also be said that the range of treatments available through the General Hospitals is limited in
many areas. In addition, as in the UK, you could well have a long wait in the casualty department
before referral to the relevant specialty clinic within the hospital. Healthcare in Cyprus is still
mainly provided through a plethora of Private Hospitals/Clinics where access to all specialties is
virtually instant and the standards are of the highest and many of the staff are multilingual thus
further easing the path to recovery.
At Villa Link we recommend that
you take out the same medical insurance you always did for your trips abroad. Often adequate medical
insurance comes as part of your normal Holiday Insurance and it is only a matter of ticking the
appropriate box to get cover. The cost of such insurance is not prohibitive and is indeed a small
price to pay for the knowledge that you are covered for Medical Services. How much do you value
your “peace of mind”?
If you already have an insurer
who has always given you satisfaction then we would advise you to stick with them. On the other
hand, if you have not been completely satisfied or are going abroad for the first time then you
could do a lot worse than taking out insurance through the AA. Our recommendation is based on the
very high proportion of our customers expressing, to us, their full satisfaction with the cover and
service provided by this company.
